OBEY Convention VII was last weekend, and it was incredible. Highlights for me were Maja Ratkje, Tim Hecker and Julianna Barwick. The Julianna Barwick show was especially moving, due in part because of James Gauvreau's projections of home movies capturing the fluidity of memory and emotions. Barwick's music and his images were a perfect combination, and it brought me to tears and laughter. I feel grateful that I got to share portions of my loop-based sounds that I had been working on over the winter months for that show. The two pieces that I shared will be featured on a release through Phinery in Denmark. News on that soon.
On June 14, 2014, Journeys will be playing at the Busstop Theatre as part of Making Spaces. Journeys is a music/sound collaboration with Evan Cardwell and Jesse Frank Matthews. We're working hard on putting something special together for you. This will be our first official show, as we've only played in improvisational settings in the past. Doors open at 7 p.m. and it's $5 or PWYC (all ages).
From Brennan, one of the organizers of the event: "Making Spaces is a student-run service learning project dedicated to addressing accessibility and diversity related issues in music and art through discussion, advocacy and action. This is our first event, and with it we aim to create an entirely open, welcoming and accessible environment for creative expression, discussion and discovery."
