Music for Plants
Place-responsive sound art performance (2013, OBEY Convention, Halifax, NS)
Curated by Lindsay Dobbin
Music for Plants took place as part of Obey Convention VI – Halifax, Nova Scotia’s beloved Spring festival that showcases music and art exploring new ideas and challenging assumptions. Over the course of a Sunday afternoon, five musicians improvised soundscapes inspired by and for the plants at the Common Roots Urban Farm, an oasis of food and community in the centre of Halifax.
Each performance was recorded in full, and are available below for listening and free download. Field recording and editing by Lindsay Dobbin, with recording assistance from Cameron Starr.
Thank you to Darcy Spidle, Evan Cardwell, Matthew Samways, Cameron Starr and all at the Obey Convention, The Food Wolf and their delicious local food, and Jayme Melrose and the Common Roots Urban Farm team. All photos by Shannon Webb-Campbell.
